Police officer: “We are increasingly being spat on and insulted”

Violent demonstrations, hooligans or protest camps: officers are increasingly exposed to aggression. How do they deal with it? A police officer reports.

I have been a police officer for almost 40 years and work for the riot police in Potsdam, mostly as a cook on various assignments. There I feed up to 250 officers, I am also a member of the staff council and have been the regional chairman of the German Police Union in Brandenburg for twelve years. So I know the concerns of my colleagues: the pressure is increasing and the respect for us from parts of the population is decreasing.
