While fleeing from the police in the Passau district, a suspected smuggler crashed into a tree with six migrants in the car and fled on foot. A 28-year-old passenger was slightly injured in the accident on Monday night, the police said. Shortly beforehand, federal police near Bad Füssing wanted to check the overcrowded car and signaled the driver to stop. The man then drove away at speeds of 160 kilometers per hour.
He is said to have endangered several road users. In Pocking, around ten kilometers away, his car left the road and crashed into the tree, it was said. The driver then fled on foot.
According to their own statements, the police initially searched for him without success. All six migrants between the ages of 7 and 31 had no identification documents with them and were taken to the local federal police station. According to the police, they are Syrian nationals. The unknown driver is now being investigated for smuggling in foreigners while posing a serious health risk.
