PlayStation Plus – Launch date of new service revealed

In June, Sony is completely revamping the PlayStation Plus service and not only combines it with PlayStation Now, but also expands the range. You now know exactly when it starts the different regions approved.

The Asian region, which can start as early as May, is the first, followed by Japan, North and South America, and Europe at the very end. Here are the start dates in detail:

  • Asian markets (excluding Japan) – scheduled for May 23, 2022
  • Japan – scheduled for June 1, 2022
  • Americas – Scheduled for June 13, 2022
  • Europe – scheduled for June 22, 2022

For Sony is the new PlayStation Plus one “tremendous measure”, which one has been working on for some time. One writes about this on the PlayStation Blog:

How much does PlayStation Plus cost then?

Sony had already revealed the prices for the new PlayStation Plus at the unveiling, which did not change too much. You still get almost the same as now, only if you choose a higher tier you have to pay more accordingly.

In detail this means:

PlayStation Plus Essential (€8.99 monthly / €24.99 quarterly / €59.99 annually)

  • Advantages:
    • Offers the same benefits PlayStation Plus members get today, such as: e.g.:
      • Two monthly downloadable games
      • Exclusive discounts
      • Cloud storage for saved games
      • Online multiplayer access
    • There are no changes for existing PlayStation Plus members on this plan.

PlayStation Plus Extra (€13.99 monthly / €39.99 quarterly / €99.99 annually)

  • Advantages:
    • Offers all the benefits of the Essential plan
    • Adds a catalog of up to 400 of the most entertaining PS4 and PS5 games, including blockbuster hits from our PlayStation Studios catalog and from third parties. Games that are part of the Extra plan can be downloaded to play.

PlayStation Plus premium (€16.99 monthly / €49.99 quarterly / €119.99 annually)

  • Advantages:
    • Offers all the benefits of the Essential and Extra plans
    • Adds up to 340 additional games including:
      • PS3 games available via cloud streaming
      • A catalog of popular classic games from the first generation of PlayStation, PS2 and PSP, available for streaming or download
    • Provides cloud streaming access for original PlayStation, PS2, PSP and PS4 games offered on Extra and Premium plans in markets where PlayStation Now is currently available. Customers can stream games using PS4 and PS5 consoles as well as PCs.
    • This plan also offers time-limited game trials, allowing customers to try selected games before purchasing.

Those who currently own PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now together will be automatically promoted to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier when available and until the regular PlayStation Now subscription end date.

As for the new content, Sony is promising some titles from the first-party line-up, including Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales or Returnal. From the back catalogue, the first thing to come out is probably the siphon filters-games to as recently reported.

It starts on June 22, 2022.
