Play about neo-Nazis in Thuringia: Dark Germany? Not here – culture

The woman on stage is angry and she is scared. “The Nazis are here, you have to cleanse the whole of Thuringia,” she exclaimed outraged. “Here are almost all Nazis, even those who don’t know that they are Nazis.” That sounds like the Suada from a play by Thomas Bernhard, but it is from a current premiere, the theater adaptation of the novel “Herscht 07769” by László Krasznahorkai. It plays in the fictional Thuringian town of Kana, a gang of Nazis, losers and hard drinkers ranting about the “Fourth Reich”. As things escalate, they set fire to a gas station and murder two foreigners.
