Plans for the fifth district high school in Poing are becoming more concrete – Ebersberg

Although the property has already been cleared away, there is still no sign of a school far and wide. When the district’s fifth grammar school will be built in Poing is currently completely open – the project is still simmering along with other projects worth millions on the so-called waiting list. Nevertheless, the mills are slowly turning in the background. For example, the education committee of the district council passed several resolutions at its most recent meeting that are intended to pave the way for the school that many have longed for. Among other things, it is now certain that the previous classes will be accommodated temporarily in Markt Schwaben – at most three years before the planned completion of the Poinger school.

The Franz-Marc-Gymnasium in the neighboring community has already declared its willingness to accept the students, and the physical proximity to the later school location “makes sense from a school development point of view”, according to the administration at the district office. Hubert Schulze, team leader of the education department, pointed out another advantage of the previous classes in Markt Schwaben: “The children don’t have to be housed in a container, they are part of a school family.” Once the Poinger Gymnasium is finished, the classes should be able to move into their new building without any major hurdles. The district office is currently reckoning with a lead time of around five years until the school is up and running.

There is a broad consensus among the factions in the district council about the planned school

When this lead time starts, however, is open. In an application in which all parliamentary groups represented in the district council apart from the Greens and AfD took part, the parties demand “to use the year 2023 to carry out all possible and necessary preliminary work for the planning and construction of the two schools”. In addition to the grammar school in Poing, this also means the vocational school center in Grafing-Bahnhof.

This preparatory work includes, among other things, thinking about a spatial concept for the educational institutions. Although these are already available for both schools, none of them are set in stone, as can now be seen in the case of the grammar school. Contrary to what was originally planned, the special IT rooms are to be omitted there. These are “no longer state of the art”, as District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß (CSU) said. Lessons on the computer no longer take place in special rooms with desktop PCs, but in normal classrooms and specialist rooms. Johannes von der Forst (Greens) noted that the necessary infrastructure would then have to be provided. In fact, some schools are still failing because there are not enough sockets to charge mobile devices, Hubert Schulze also confirmed. In the case of a new building, something like this would of course be taken into account from the start.

Savings should be made when building the high school, but not in terms of quality

Cancellations, such as the construction of the IT rooms, not only affect the lessons, but above all the construction costs of the school. These were originally estimated at around 81 million euros; according to Schulze, the revised concept will now cost around 60 to 74.5 million euros. Three years ago, significantly higher standards were assumed, said Christa Stewens (CSU). “Today, the district can no longer afford it.” However, planning should not be at the expense of long-term quality, noted von der Forst. District Administrator Niedergesäß replied: “We’re not building anything that’s broken after ten years.” Nevertheless, you have to see if you can save in one or the other place.

That should now happen in the coming weeks and months, when the planning for the fifth district high school is pushed forward. A working group made up of representatives from politics, administration and experts is to start work on this at the beginning of March. Christa Stewens said it was a good sign that the decisions that had been made were sending out: “It shows that we want this high school in Poing.”
