PC Sales – Apple Sits on Laptops – Economy

Electronics group Apple sold 40.5 percent fewer computers in the first quarter of this year. That makes it difficult for Apple, because the company already has a lot of unsold computers in its warehouses. Apple is not alone with the problem, according to market researchers from IDC, the competition is also suffering from the fact that the demand, which was fueled by the Covid pandemic and the trend towards working from home, has now fallen sharply again. However, Apple posted the largest drop in sales. For all providers, including Leovo, Dell and HP, the average was 29 percent. 56.9 million laptops and PCs were sold in the first quarter, which was less than the same period in 2019 – i.e. before the pandemic. The reluctance of consumers to buy computers also has an impact on the manufacturers of memory components. Market leader Samsung has already announced that it will reduce the production of PC memory chips. The South Koreans had recently reported the smallest profit since 2009. Some manufacturers want to use the drop in demand to convert or relocate their production.
