A good two months have passed since the Free State introduced the payment card for asylum seekers in four pilot municipalities. The project is now in phase two: 38 more cities and districts are being added. Prime Minister Markus Söder promised that the Bavarian card would be “tougher” than elsewhere. State Secretary of the Interior Sandro Kirchner (both CSU) recently said: “Overall, the card has been very well received. No significant problems have yet arisen.” But is that true?
