Of course, as a child and teenager I knew about the Passionsfestspiele, especially since we often spent our holidays in the neighboring Allgäu, but Oberammergau was taboo for us, somehow disreputable, an expression of Christian anti-Judaism or anti-Semitism, which my parents condemned and which, the older I got, I got , became more and more suspect. I finally saw them at the end of August, encouraged by the many positive press reports – and found it disappointing. However, I then forced myself to read the old and the newest version of the text, and it turned out that I did not agree at all with the predominantly positive assessment that was made public everywhere.
