Attacks on politicians and campaign workers have caused horror across the country in recent weeks. Now there has been another incident.

Two Left Party campaigners were killed during an election campaign in Leipzig was attacked by an unknown person. According to the police, a 46-year-old man was treated as an outpatient in hospital after the incident on Monday evening.

According to the party, the perpetrator kicked and hit him and a 21-year-old. In addition to insults, the unknown man is also said to have said “that the AfD is the only electable party.” When the emergency services arrived at Lindenau Market, the unknown man had already fled. The police are investigating for bodily harm.

According to the information, the two victims were campaigners for the Left Party’s transport policy spokesman, Marco Böhme.

Several attacks on politicians and campaign workers have caused nationwide horror in recent weeks. In Dresden, SPD campaigner Matthias Ecke was beaten so badly that he had to be hospitalized, and local politician Yvonne Mosler (Greens) was jostled and threatened while hanging election posters. In Berlin, a suspect was temporarily placed in a psychiatric hospital after an attack on Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD). AfD politicians were also the target of attacks.
