Parisian scooters will be able to take refuge in the Lille metropolis

When the misfortune of some makes the mobility of others. Chased out of certain large French cities, in particular from Paris by the mayor, Anne Hidalgo, the operators of self-service electric mobility, at least two of them, will be able to offer their cars to the inhabitants of the Lille metropolis. According to the MEL, no less than 68 municipalities, out of 98, have expressed the wish to test this service. But beware, not everyone will be in the same boat. Explanations.

It was Roubaix who had, in a way, wiped the plaster by experimenting, for more than a year, with a self-service bicycle and scooter service offered by Tier Mobility. Plasters that were not, users, town hall and operators having admitted to being very satisfied with the results. This success was decisive in extending the possibility of access to this service to the communes of the MEL who so wished. The call for expressions of interest, launched by the metropolis last March, resulted in the application of 44 municipalities to test the semi-floating of electric bicycles and scooters, and 24 others only for bicycles. For this last option, this is particularly the case of Lille, where Martine Aubry had repeated that she did not want to see the mass arrival of electric scooters.

Geographical and performance restriction

To deploy the service from this summer in these 68 municipalities, the MEL has designated two operators, Tier Mobility and Lime, with authorizations for a period of one year, renewable twice at most. And no question that it is anarchy on the sidewalks or that the vehicles reach indecent speeds. On the same model as the system set up in Roubaix, bicycles and scooters will be geolocated and will only be able to park in the stations provided for this purpose, otherwise the user will see the meter continue to run, increasing the bill.

Question speed, it will not be necessary to be in a hurry. All vehicles will be restricted to 20 km/h, which is below the limit authorized in France. In some areas, including city centers, bicycles and scooters will not exceed 8 km / h. And in parks, squares, near schools or pedestrian areas, self-service vehicles will be banned thanks to GPS restrictions. “The goal is not to prohibit, but to regulate,” the MEL said in a statement. The word is indeed perfectly appropriate.
