The collective bargaining dispute at Deutsche Post continues. At the beginning of the week, the ver.di union called on employees nationwide to stop work. It demands 15 percent more wages for around 160,000 employees.
The collective bargaining dispute between the ver.di trade union and Swiss Post is entering a new round. Once again, the union has called postal workers nationwide for a warning strike for today and tomorrow. Work stoppages are planned in selected companies in the letter and parcel centers as well as in delivery, ver.di announced yesterday. Protest rallies are scheduled for today in Berlin, Rostock and Munich, tomorrow in Dortmund, Hamburg, Saarbrücken, Polch (Rhineland-Palatinate), Nuremberg, Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart.
“This is another crystal-clear signal to the employers: the employees are ready to fight for their demands and are now expecting a round of negotiations that will end with a substantial salary increase,” explained ver.di deputy chairwoman and chief negotiator Andrea Kocsis.
Negotiations continue this week
The union is demanding 15 percent more money for the approximately 160,000 employees with a contract term of one year. The Post board rejects the demand as unrealistic. “The fact that employers are refusing to compensate for real wage losses is a provocation in view of the company’s billions in profits. The employees in the companies will now give a clear answer and reinforce their demands with strikes,” said Kocsis.
The third round of negotiations will continue on February 8th and 9th in Düsseldorf. Swiss Post has announced that it will then submit an offer. There had already been warning strikes on several days in January. Most recently, 20 percent of parcels and nine percent of letters were not delivered due to outstanding deliveries on one day.
