Amy Schumer says she received death threats for making a joke at this year’s Oscars. Her statement was about fellow actress Kirsten Dunst.

Amy Schumer says she received death threats for her joke about actress Kirsten Dunst at the Oscars a few weeks ago. “The Secret Service got in touch with me,” the 40-year-old actress said on The Howard Stern Show. The joke was coordinated – like the other jokes at the event, said Schumer, who moderated the Oscar evening on March 27th. “We spoke before.”

Schumer pretended not to recognize Kirsten Dunst at the awards ceremony. She thought the Oscar nominee was a so-called seat filler and asked her to stand up. Dunst sat at the table with her husband, Jesse Plemons. A seat filler is a person who sits in a star guest’s chair at events when the guest is accepting an award or going to the bar.

Another joke at the Oscars sparked strong reactions

According to Schumer, some saw the joke as an insult. “Who do you think you are that you can insult Kirsten Dunst like that?” Schumer quoted the reactions. The threats were so serious and so numerous that the police called her. “Did you make fun of Kirsten Dunst at the Oscars?” Schumer mocked up the call.

At the Oscars, another joke had already sparked heated debates. Oscar winner Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock at the awards ceremony after he made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett (who star reported). It was about her shaved head – the actress suffers from pathological hair loss. The actor was banned from the Oscars until 2032 for the assault.
