Killer whales primarily target one of the marine predators’ organs: their liver. In less than two minutes, the marine mammal tore the organ out of the dangerous predator’s abdomen and holds it in its mouth as it swims past the researchers.
“The astonishing attack off the coast of Mossel Bay, South Africa, represents unprecedented behavior. It highlights the extraordinary skills of the killer whale,” said Dr. Alison Towner from Rhodes University, who was on site with an international research team.
