Orbán provokes with his trip to Moscow – Opinion

There are, roughly speaking, two ways of assessing the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Moscow. First: with indignation. Hungary currently holds the EU Council Presidency, but of course that does not give Orbán the right or even the mandate to fly on a “peace mission” to the Russian warmonger Vladimir Putin on behalf of the European Union. The EU’s position in the Ukraine war is crystal clear, it was determined by the Union’s 27 heads of state and government: Putin is the aggressor, Ukraine is his victim, Europe will support the invaded country “for as long as necessary”. Orbán’s solo trip is therefore a deliberate kick in the shins of his European colleagues.
