Optimism Successfully upgraded “Bedrock”, reduced deposit time from Ether to Optimism to 1 minute, including reduced fees.

The Optimism Network concluded its “Bedrock” upgrade on June 7th, reducing deposit times, reducing layer-1 fees, and issuing additional security rules. As announced by network developer OP Labs

The upgrade is part of a reform that the developers say will help create a “superchain” of scalable Web3 networks using Optimism’s OP Stack software.

Karl Floersch, CEO of OP Labs, said Bedrock made several gas optimizations and reduced network data availability fees on Ethereum by 40%. Decline in Optimism

The upgrade also restructures the chain (reorgs) on Ethereum, reducing the deposit time to one minute. Previously, deposits from Ethereum to Optimism took an average of 10 minutes.

Bedrock also uses a two-step withdrawal process to help prevent bridge exploits.

The new upgrade also paves the way for further development of the OP Stack in the future, with the ultimate goal of creating “superchain” networks and feature “modular proof systems” that enable developers to build and customize blockchain networks. And the validator component of the software, known as an “op-geth,” with less than 1,000 lines of code, is different from the Ethereum version, which could make it easy for validators to switch to.
