On the revenues of dealers, Gérald Darmanin caught in the act of exaggeration

An estimate that surprised even LREM deputies. To motivate his opposition to the legalization of cannabis, which he considers an “insult” and a “moral defeat”, Gérald Darmanin played the financial card at the microphone of France Info.

“Do you think that the big guys, the thugs who live on 100,000 euros of cash per day, will set up a small shop, declare to the Urssaf and the taxes, pay contributions, like that, to sell the cannabis around the corner, in the Old Port of Marseille? This is not how it happens, ”quipped the Minister of the Interior on Tuesday.

FAKE OFF

The Interior Ministry was unable to respond to requests from 20 minutes on the origin of the figure cited by the Minister.

This order of magnitude is far from the estimates of the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT) in 2016. The remuneration of a lookout was estimated, on average, 90 euros per day. That of a salesman, at 150 euros, and of a sales manager, 535 euros. A “right-hand man” can earn 1,450 euros on average per task.

The authors of this table add an important caveat: “Almost no one works full time”, which means, as explained it OFDT at Release, that these figures “cannot be multiplied by 30 to obtain a monthly total because the activity is not continuous and not at full rate”.

These small hands of traffic, the most numerous, had in 2007 a turnover – and not an income – estimated at 7,000 euros per year, half less than the minimum wage at the time, depending on the work by researcher Christian Ben Lakhdar. At the top of the scale, the “wholesalers”, which the specialist numbers at around 1,000, had an average annual turnover of 400,000 euros per individual. The word “individual” can be understood “like a family or a small group of people”, specifies the researcher.

In 2015, a lawsuit sheds light on traffic revenues

The trial of the so-called La Castellane network, in Marseille, in 2015, shed new light on the income derived from drug trafficking. A lookout earned between 50 and 80 euros, according to testimonies relayed through The Parisian. For a salesperson, it was 100 euros per day. A nanny, responsible for accommodating drugs or other goods related to trafficking at home, claims to have been paid 1,600 euros per month.

Income is climbing for some larger members of the network. A “point of sale manager” had 30,660 euros of income in two and a half months, report Mediapart. A “logistician of deal point managers”, 77,280 euros over the same period.

This trial illustrates what noted sociologist Claire Duport in 2012: “With the exception of those who are at the head of networks and can develop logics of personal enrichment and accumulation, even investment, most of the people involved are at best” smicards of the traffic “, even a kind of”lumpen proletariat “of the networks.” Far, therefore, from the 100,000 euros per day announced by the minister.
