On the death of the composer Friedrich Cerha. – Culture

There is probably not just a curse on evil deeds, but also one on good deeds: with his own scrupulousness, the composer Friedrich Cerha spent years working meticulously from Alban Berg’s posthumous material to create a third act for his unfinished opera “Lulu”. The successful premiere of this accomplishment by Pierre Boulez in 1979 not only ousted Cerha’s own extensive oeuvre from public perception. It was written, which annoyed him more, that from then on he read in all the reviews that his music sounded like Berg’s.
