The German Olympic team for Paris is growing and growing. More than 100 other athletes have been nominated – including some prominent names.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) has selected another 101 athletes for the Summer Games in Paris. The athletes come from 13 sports, as the DOSB announced after the third nomination meeting. The squad now includes more than 160 athletes, including substitute athletes.

According to the information, 25 medal winners from previous Olympic Games made it into the squad in the most recent round of nominations. For more than 50 nominees, Paris would be their first appearance on the Olympic stage. “This combination of experience and impartiality is the right mix for a powerful team,” said Olaf Tabor, Chef de Mission and DOSB Executive Board Member for Competitive Sports, according to the statement.

Kerber, Boll and several Olympic champions nominated

Some prominent names have been considered in the third round of nominations – for example tennis star Angelique Kerber, table tennis star Timo Boll and canoe racer Sebastian Brendel, who has already won Olympic gold three times. Rio Olympic champion Laura Ludwig (beach volleyball) and the two Tokyo gold medalists Ricarda Funk (canoe slalom) and Alexander Zverev (tennis) are also included.

Two further nomination rounds are planned for July – then it will be the turn of team sports, athletics, gymnastics and horse riding, among others. The Summer Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. The DOSB expects a team strength of more than 400 athletes.
