In order to consistently enforce the zero corona policy, the residents of Beijing should implement an extraordinary measure during the Olympic Games: If an Olympic participant has a traffic accident, Beijing residents should not provide first aid.

The Olympic Winter Games in Beijing begin on February 4th. But while the Olympic mood in Germany is still a long time coming, at least the Beijingers get a little foretaste of what is in store for them. While the issue of human rights is of less importance, the organizers are plagued by one particular fear: the Omikron variant could spread and permanently disrupt the games.

In order to put a stop to this horror scenario from the start, the Winter Games will take place strictly isolated in a bubble and without a spectator. In addition, the excluded Beijingers have to adhere to further strict rules of conduct. Now the capital city authorities are calling on the Beijingers to stay away from participants in the Olympic Games in the event of a traffic accident and not to help them either.

Measure fits in with the strict zero corona policy

“In the event of a traffic accident, please keep a safe distance and do not come into contact with the vehicle or people in the vehicle,” said a statement from the Beijing Traffic Bureau, which was circulated by state media and called for professional helpers to be awaited give an accident with one of the Olympic vehicles.

The question arises whether this is conducive to the Olympic spirit. But the organizers don’t care. The measure fits in with China’s strict zero corona policy. Therefore, the aim is to prevent participants from all over the world from coming into direct contact with residents of the Chinese capital. Athletes, journalists and other Olympic participants are only allowed to stay in designated locations such as hotels and competition venues. Special shuttle buses and express trains operate between them.
