Olivier Faure officially re-elected First Secretary at the 79th Party Congress

Olivier Faure was officially re-elected on Saturday First Secretary of the Socialist Party, to cheers, at the opening of the 79th Party Congress, in Villeurbanne, AFP noted. The First Secretary was re-elected after the ratification by Congress of the results of a vote organized Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for nearly 22,000 members up to date in 2,500 offices.

Almost 3/4 of the votes

The deputy for Seine-et-Marne, who took the head of the party in 2018, easily disposed of his only competitor, the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin (metropolis of Lyon) Hélène Geoffroy, by 73.49% of the vote against 26.52%. This re-election was a formality in view of the large victory, 72%, of the orientation text of the outgoing First Secretary last week.
