Kahn’s boaster statement from the 2022 championship celebration falls on his feet
Oliver Kahn spat big tones at the 2022 championship celebration. The Bayern boss said the competition could “take off the hope” of ever becoming champions. Now a video of the performance is haunting social media and causing ridicule.
The CEO of FC Bayern, Oliver Kahn, was not at a loss for pithy words, neither as an active player nor as a TV expert or later as an official. In view of the sporting crisis of the club, it is now falling on his feet. A short video clip has been circulating on social media for days, showing Kahn at last year’s championship celebrations on the balcony of Munich City Hall. At the time, Kahn was very enthusiastic about the tenth championship in a row: “And I heard that the competition is hoping to maybe become champion next season. And I’ve already given a few things up here , but I’ll tell you one thing, these hopes can be brushed aside,” he said.
A year later, the hope of competitor Borussia Dortmund is still very much alive to finally knock the record champions off the throne. Before the last match day, the starting position speaks for BVB, who are two points ahead of Bayern in the table. Nobody really believes that Dortmund will give away the championship in the home game against Mainz and that Bayern (against Cologne in the last game) will win their eleventh title.
Accusation: rough climate by Oliver Kahn
So it’s no wonder that numerous users on social media take the clip as an opportunity to blaspheme a little. Kahn offers himself as an object of ridicule not only because of the clip. His authority has been scratched by the first season without a title since 2012, and he and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic have also been heavily criticized within the club. Rumors are circulating that Kahn is to be replaced at the board meeting on May 30th. The former national goalkeeper is accused of appearing too cool, too arrogant and too uncommunicative in the headquarters on Säbener Straße. The rough and surprising dismissal of Julian Nagelsmann in March, which was intended as a liberation, later turned out to be a mistake. Critics therefore blame Kahn and Salihamidzic for the sporting crisis.
