Chancellor Scholz calls the situation between Russia and Ukraine “very, very serious”
During his inaugural visit to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) also spoke about reconstruction in Europe with a view to the pandemic.

On January 17, 2021, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during his first visit to Spain: “That’s why we’ve been talking about the crises in the European neighborhood. This applies in particular to the situation on the Ukrainian-Russian border. It worries us and it is very, very serious. There is no other way to describe it. It is therefore important that we expect clear steps from Russia to de-escalate the situation. And that is also clear: military aggression against Ukraine would have serious political, as well as economic consequences. That’s why it’s our job to do everything we can to avoid such a development, from which everyone has to suffer in the end.” “That we do best if we solve our economic problems in Europe together. The European Stability and Growth Pact is a framework in which we made it possible, for example, to get the European Recovery Fund off the ground. I I said it at the beginning and would like to repeat it here: Most of the money that was mobilized there has not even been spent yet.
