The Oktoberfest in Munich will take place until October 3rd. More visitors have already been counted than before the corona pandemic.

Big crowd on the Oktoberfest: Around 3.4 million visitors attended the festival by half time. That was more than last year (3 million) and also more than at the last Oktoberfest before the pandemic in 2019 (3.3 million), as the festival management reported. The festival has been relaxed and peaceful so far with almost perfect weather throughout.

Festival director Clemens Baumgärtner spoke of a “summery, relaxed feeling”. The police and medical services reported that the event was calm and, compared to the number of visitors, the number of incidents was relatively low. Although more people attended the festival, the police reported fewer operations: Wiesnwache officers had to intervene 838 times, compared to 923 operations at half-time last year.

On the first day of the Oktoberfest there was an accident on the family roller coaster “Höllenblitz” with eight people slightly injured. An approaching train had slowly rolled back and collided with the stationary train. The train was able to run again on Friday after repairs and a TÜV inspection.
