Oktoberfest: Lauterbach via Corona-Wiesn-Welle in Munich – Munich

Two weeks after the start of the Oktoberfest – and one day before the end of the Wiesn – the corona numbers in Munich are high, as feared: the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported an incidence of 768.7 for the city of Munich on Sunday . The value is slightly lower than on Friday (792.8). According to the RKI, this is due to the fact that hardly any health authorities transmit current figures over the weekend.

On Saturday, the city of Munich reported 12,412 corona cases in the past seven days. It is not known how many were infected at the Oktoberfest or in the vicinity of the Wiesn. Numerous smaller folk festivals, such as the Straubinger Gäuboden folk festival, have already shown that visits to beer tents often lead to higher incidence rates.

Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) commented on the increase in the incidence in Munich during the Oktoberfest period via Twitter: “That would not have been necessary if self-tests had been carried out before admission. The prices per measure would have been 2-3 euros not arrived.” Even before the Oktoberfest began, he had spoken out in favor of voluntary self-tests. Lauterbach emphasized that it was time for measures for the cold season: “However, the development shows what will happen if the countries wait too long with the mask requirement indoors.”

The Munich health officer Beatrix Zurek (SPD) assumes that the actual number of infections is “four to five times higher”. Because the statistics of the RKI only include as a “case” who has a corona disease confirmed by a PCR test. The number of unreported cases is large, according to Zurek, because not everyone who has symptoms also does a PCR test.

However, the proportion of patients in Munich with Covid-19 in intensive care units remains low – according to the Divi intensive care register on Sunday (as of 10:18 a.m.) it is 7.28 percent. 30 people are currently in an intensive care unit with the virus, on Friday there were 23. Of 422 intensive care beds in Munich, 384 are currently occupied.

In the entire Free State, the incidence value on Sunday is 692.5 and thus slightly higher than on Friday (654.8). Here, too, the numbers will not be up to date again until the middle of next week due to late reports from the health authorities.
