While the rides and tents of the spring festival are being dismantled on the Theresienwiese, the city council is busy this Tuesday with the Oktoberfest: the permits for this year’s Oktoberfest are being granted. It is expected that Peter Reichert will remain host despite the tussle with a security man and allegations of poor hygiene. The district administration department certified the Bräurosl host the necessary general reliability as a restaurateur. Representatives of the coalition of the Greens and the SPD stated in advance that they would follow the administration if it suggested Reichert.
But a lot will change at the Wiesn this year. Michael Menzel’s Zugspitzbahn is not allowed. The ride from 1936 always needs new spare parts, which are often not easy to get – last year the Zugspitzbahn was on the fairground, but could not run because such a part arrived too late.
In order for the old ride to meet the current requirements, which are stricter in Germany than in the rest of the EU, Menzel would have to invest “several hundred thousand euros”. He’s still thinking about whether it’s worth it at all, and actually only applied this year so as not to fall behind in the points classification for the Wiesn. Because it also takes into account how often you have already applied.
