OGC Nice – Cologne: Violent clashes break out between supporters

They came in large numbers from Germany to support their club during the Europa League Conference match against OGC Nice at the Allianz Riviera at 6.45 p.m. And whatever the result, the Cologne supporters will have left their mark on the city. A few minutes before kick-off, a hundred German and Nice supporters threw smoke bombs and bottles at each other and exchanged punches in front of the stadium. Tensions continued inside the Allianz Riviera where Cologne supporters wanted to join the stands of the Nice to continue fighting, resulting in the fall of five meters from a German supporter, currently supported by the relief being in “absolute emergency”, according to the prefecture.

Following this violence, the kick-off of the meeting, initially scheduled for 6.45 p.m., has been postponed and is now scheduled for 7.40 p.m.

“Uncivil” and “scandalous” behavior

Earlier in the afternoon, German supporters had left empty bottles and cans on Place Masséna, in the city center, and had tagged the official store of the Nice club and vandalized the Aiglons logo, as had been spotted. Nice morning via video on social media.

The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, then reacted and criticized the “uncivil and scandalous behavior”. He assured to send the invoices to the Cologne club.
