Ofarim case: Hotel Westin in Leipzig concludes internal investigation

In the case of the musician Gil Ofarim, the hotel operator of the Westin in Leipzig will not initiate any criminal or labor law action against the accused employee. As the company, Hotelgesellschaft Gerberstrasse Betriebs GmbH, announced, the internal investigations did not reveal any “objective indications” that would justify such a step.

We have therefore decided that appropriate measures will not be taken against the employee.

Accused employee deployed elsewhere

The employee is still exposed to massive hostility. That is why the company decided that the man “from a welfare point of view will not yet fully perform his duties again.” At the request of the Leipzig Public Prosecutor’s Office, all knowledge gained was handed over to the authorities.

118 pages of expert opinion on the Ofarim case

According to the information, the report comprises 118 pages. The law firm had carried out extensive research for this. All guests willing to provide information and other witnesses were questioned about the incident. In addition, the public prosecutor’s office had given access to files relating to the interrogation of witnesses who only wanted to speak to the investigating authorities. In order to analyze the video recordings, the law firm obtained an opinion from a specialized expert. The recordings were also examined for any manipulation.

Hotel is silent about further results

The Westin initially did not want to make any further findings from the internal investigations public until the prosecution’s investigations were concluded. The labor law instruction was issued to all employees not to make any further statements to the media.

At the beginning of October, the musician Gil Ofarim accused the hotel of having been insulted anti-Semitically by an employee. He described in a video that the employee had asked him to remove his chain with a Star of David. Both he and the employee filed criminal charges.
