Obituary: Helmut Weber is dead – Ebersberg

The fact that the Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Ebersberg exists – or rather: still exists – is largely thanks to Helmut Weber. Born in Upper Franconia, he moved to Ebersberg almost 40 years ago and, as a Protestant who even grew up in a vicarage, naturally also joined the local Protestant church community.

At that time, they already celebrated their services in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche, which, however, already showed considerable damage after a good quarter of a century. The concrete construction was innovative for its time – but also very susceptible to the effects of the weather. What did not go unnoticed by Weber, the doctor of chemistry and honorary professor of building science and repair technology at the Technical University of Munich. Thanks to his expertise and his contacts to the right companies, Weber pushed ahead with the renovation of the church and also founded the association.

This was quite successful, with the donations, among other things, the restoration of the trumpet angel on the top of the church tower, the renovation of the entrance portal and the new rooms of the table were financed. Since 2005, the association has also been organizing its now traditional New Year’s reception, but most recently in 2020 because of Corona, at which Helmut Weber always encouraged membership and donations and presented what had been achieved in the past year.

The parish will have to celebrate the next New Year’s reception without him, as it has now become known that Helmut Weber died on Boxing Day at the age of 81.
