David Sassoli, the President of the European Parliament, is dead. In Brussels he is recognized as a great European, in Italy he became famous as a TV presenter.

David Sassoli was always a little here, a little there, a commuter in the European cause. For most Italians, however, the Social Democratic President of the European Parliament has probably always remained the face from TV, that of “TG1”, as the evening news from Rai Uno is called, the first channel on Italian television. A darling of the nation, serious in appearance, but already very good-looking. He was also called the “Florentine Kennedy”.
