Oberschleißheim – Town hall chief promotes commercial settlement – district of Munich

Apparently, most people in Oberschleißheim have no problem with the new commercial area south of Dachauer Strasse. Friederike Forster, who presented the objections to the project and in particular its development for the “Climate & Nature Conservation Schleißheim” citizens’ initiative, remained largely alone with her criticism at the citizens’ meeting on Wednesday evening. Mayor Markus Böck (CSU) campaigned for the settlement of new businesses and called the planning an “extremely important project” in his annual report.

In view of the written protests in the media in advance, Böck had apparently prepared for more headwind. In his report, he appealed to the 200 or so visitors to the community center to “stick together and try to get it done.” With the realization of another commercial area, which has been planned again and again for decades, one is now “more advanced than ever before”.

And in view of the constellation with the veterinary campus of the University of Munich next door, “they are able to develop a unique location”. The commercial area operates under the name “One Health Technology Campus” and is designed for companies and start-ups that deal with medicine.

New businesses are important for Oberschleißheim, especially as trade tax payers. In view of the upcoming increase in population via several new development areas in the pipeline, “it is inevitable that we will have to increase our income,” said the mayor, “otherwise we will no longer be able to keep up with the development”.

Forster presented the objections of her citizens’ initiative in the just completed hearing in the approval process. The main issues are the location in the landscape protection area and the development. At least during the construction and start-up phase of the commercial area, it must be accessible from the east via Veterinär- and St.-Hubertus-Straße. When this option could then be replaced by a new bypass road in the west via the planned main development is completely open.

Böck admitted that the state of development in the planning of this bypass was “zero” and that there was no progress. The underpass of federal highway 471 under the railway, which was requested in a referendum in 2019, continues to stand still. The state building authority has now registered new concerns about the classification of the project, said the mayor, which must first be re-examined. But he was “always on the hook,” he assured.

The Mittenheim Bridge is finished nine months earlier

On the other hand, Böck reported that the renovation work on the central bridge over the railway in Mittenheimer Straße had been completed prematurely. The bridge is scheduled to open later this year. The construction work, which was announced when construction began in 2020 for the period up to August 2023, would “definitely be finished this year,” said the mayor. Apart from minor residual work, the only thing missing for approval is acceptance by the railway. After the many restrictions imposed by the lockdown, the mayor announced that there would be “maybe a small celebration” at the end.

Mariana Levermann from the board of directors of the trade association complained that “the shops are all gone” in the village. Especially in the former shopping area on the southern Mittenheimer Strasse, former shops are constantly being replaced by new residential buildings. She asked City Hall to take action. Böck regretted that “the owners would be very grateful” if the municipality gave them such specifications. And even if commercial space were created, “the use cannot be influenced”.

Michael Hagl from the Oberschleißheim police inspection reported a historic record year with just 345 registered crimes in 2021, fewer than ever before. A burglary, for example, was on record that year. Life in Oberschleißheim is indescribably safe, he enthused. Fraud and theft accounted for the lion’s share of crimes, and there were almost no violent crimes in public spaces. “Let’s go out on the street,” he joked, “be safe there.”
