Oberschleißheim – Penny in the town center – district of Munich

Once again the rounding off of the new market square is announced for the new Oberschleißheim town centre. The new construction of two commercial buildings in place of the former shopping center, which has been repeatedly postponed for more than ten years, is now set to begin again with certainty. In an extraordinary meeting, the municipal council’s building committee approved the corresponding development plans and at the same time the building application for the first of the two planned buildings. The contract between City Hall and the company has also already been signed.

The Rewe Group is building a Penny supermarket there, including a day café, with a sales area of 1,400 square meters. 44 apartments with a total of 3400 square meters of living space are to be built on five floors. One third is rented at reduced prices according to the community’s commitments to “social land use”. The market roof protruding on the ground floor will be planted as usable gardens for the residents of the first floor. A children’s playground is planned on the east side of the building. There will be 96 parking spaces on the site, 33 of which are above ground and 63 in an underground car park.

“It was a really long and hard struggle,” summed up Mayor Markus Böck (CSU), “but now the way is clear for the final completion of the new town center.” The redesign of the Bürgerplatz as the first stage of this planning was completed in 2017, the previous buildings of the shopping center have been empty for years and some have already been demolished. But the new building has been delayed since 2012, most recently because Rewe was replanning and didn’t want to build a store under its name, but rather a branch from the discounter line plus lavish rental apartments.
