Fire in Solingen: Homicide squad without concrete suspicion

After a fire in a Solingen residential building that left eleven people injured, traces of an accelerant were discovered. An investigation is underway into attempted murder.

Two days after a house fire in In the Solingen shooting, which left eleven people injured, the homicide squad has no concrete suspicions. The questioning of people in the area is in full swing, said a spokesman for the Wuppertal public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday. The investigation is being carried out on the grounds of deliberate arson and attempted murder.

Eleven residents were treated in hospital for suspected mild smoke poisoning. A woman also suffered an injury to her foot when she fled the house. The fire broke out early Sunday morning.

The investigators are urgently looking for witnesses and informants who saw suspicious people or vehicles at the time in question. The first emergency call was received on Sunday at around 1:15 a.m.

Four people died in a fire in Solingen on March 25, which was also caused by arson. One suspect is in custody. The 39-year-old is said to have tried to kill someone again 14 days later: He is said to have attacked a 44-year-old man with a machete and critically injured him.
