The background to the case in Bad Salzuflen is still completely unclear: police officers shoot at a driver who is speeding towards the officers.

Police officers shot at a fleeing driver on Saturday in Bad Salzuflen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The 19-year-old suffered serious injuries. It cannot be ruled out that his life is in danger, according to the Detmold public prosecutor.

The incident happened after the young man sped away from a police checkpoint. Patrol cars from the Herford police and the Lippe police followed his car to a cul-de-sac in a residential area. The officers got out there.

However, the driver turned around and drove towards the officers at high speed, according to the message. The police officers then shot the car with their service weapons and hit the young man. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Rescue workers took him to a hospital by helicopter.

A murder commission from the Bielefeld police was set up to clarify the background and the course of events.
