She is the first child of Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit: the likeable Princess Ingrid Alexandra will one day become Queen of Norway.

She has the smile of her mother Mette-Marit and the eyes of her father, Prince Haakon: The Norwegian heir to the throne Ingrid Alexandra celebrated her 18th birthday on Friday. If, contrary to expectations, it should become necessary, she is now old enough to take the throne herself. Incidentally, this is only possible because the law was changed in 1991 so that women are now also included in the succession to the throne. Otherwise her little brother Sverre would be his father’s successor.

Ingrid Alexandra will become only the second female regent in the Scandinavian country. Her only royal predecessor is the monarch Margaret, who reigned from 1353 to 1412. However, not only via Norway, but also via Sweden and Denmark. That a young woman is heir to the throne is a real rarity. And that despite the fact that she has an older brother: 25-year-old Marius. However, he comes from his mother’s first marriage and is therefore not a biological child of Prince Haakon. He therefore has no place in the line of succession.

Norway: Ingrid Alexandra now has her own office

Ingrid Alexandra has already got her own office in the palace and will in future support her parents more often with official tasks. On her birthday, she already met with representatives of Parliament, who gave her congratulations and discussed future plans with the princess. However, Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit made it clear that the education of the heir to the throne is still the top priority and that royal duties only come afterwards. Ingrid Alexandra has just finished school and will probably start studying.

Privately, the Norwegian princess is a passionate dog lover, likes skiing, surfing and learning kickboxing. She was able to spend an almost normal childhood with her siblings on the Skaugum estate in the village of Asker, which is said to have always been very important to her parents.
