Nordic Combined: Vinzenz Geiger wins after a mad race to catch up

Status: 12/17/2022 4:44 p.m

The German athletes around Vinzenz Geiger need another race to catch up on the cross-country ski run on Saturday (December 17th, 2022) at the Nordic combined event in Ramsau.

In the jumping competition, which was disappointing from a German point of view, only Manuel Faißt finished ninth in the top ten. Faißt goes into the 10-kilometer cross-country skiing 57 seconds behind the again outstanding Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber, who had already won confidently the day before.

Clear residue on Riiber

Julian Schmid, who is currently not that strong in cross-country skiing, is 1:08 minutes behind in 12th place, Vinzenz Geiger, currently the best German runner, is a second behind him. Geiger showed a great performance on the cross-country ski run on Friday and, with third place, secured a place on the podium.

Eric Frenzel, who is slowly having to fight his way back to his old form, finished 15th right behind Geiger at a decent 93.5 meters and said on the Sportschau microphone: “I can definitely be satisfied, it was another step forward. Now let’s see how the initial situation is, I now feel much better on the cross-country ski run.”

“You can’t feel anything in the air”

Fabian Rießle initially struggled after landing at 89 meters, but then said in the first: “The jump was difficult to assess because you really don’t feel anything in the air here. But if the trainers are happy, it’s all the better.”
