No water pipe, no drinks: Miralem Pjanic describes allegations of indiscipline as “fake news”

No water pipe, no drinks: Miralem Pjanic describes allegations of indiscipline as “fake news”

Why was Miralem Pjanic absent from Bosnia’s World Cup qualifier against Ukraine? Not for disciplinary reasons, says the Besiktas star himself.

Miralem Pjanic, on loan from FC Barcelona to Besiktas, has denied being absent from the final World Cup qualifying match between Bosnia and Ukraine for disciplinary reasons. Media in his home country reported that the midfielder was sent home by coach Ivaylo Petev after pictures of Pjanic surfaced in a bar with a hookah and alcoholic beverages.

“I officially deny this news. That I didn’t play was a decision made jointly with the coach,” wrote Pjanic Instagram. “They’re also old photos,” he added, adding the phrase “fake news” to his post.

Pjanic is missing in the meaningless final game

According to the Bosnian media, Pjanic celebrated on the eve of the previous qualifying game against Finland – and then made a manageable performance against the Scandinavians, which called his coach on the scene.

After the 1: 3 defeat against Finland the Bosnians had no chance of qualifying for the tournament in Qatar anyway, so the 0: 2 defeat was of no consequence.
