The video has been playing in a loop since it was broadcast on being hit by several people.
In comments, the elected official explains that the images show the attack on a Canadian student from the Rennes School of Business, a prestigious business school which welcomes 5,000 students in Rennes. After sharing it in his article and quickly removing it, 20 Minutes checked. And obtained proof that the images absolutely did not show the assault in question.
FAKE OFF
“An attack is not a concept, it is a lifelong trauma for the victim, all my support to this RSB student who experienced this unbearable attack. » It is with this comment that elected official Charles Compagnon published the video supposed to show the attack on a Canadian student in Rennes on Wednesday October 9.
Since then, the images have been widely taken up by numerous far-right accounts such as the now influential nightclub doorman Le Jarl or the French fascist account of Souche. The regional advisor of the National Rally Astrid Prunier even mentions “the poignant cries” of this Canadian student. Except it wasn’t him.
On Wednesday, an international exchange student was attacked on the campus of the Rennes School of Business. According to our information, his phone was stolen by a group of individuals and he suffered violence. Before him, four other students from the business school had escaped the attempted theft by taking refuge in the premises of the establishment. Two complaints were filed: one by the student, the other by the school administration.
Wrong time, wrong place
But then where does this video come from and how did it get to X, where it has racked up thousands of views? According to our information, it would have been filmed on Wednesday evening but in the Gros Chêne district of Maurepas. We easily recognize the building in the background located on Patton Avenue, very close to the slab known to house significant drug trafficking. Or several kilometers from the Beauregard district, where the school is located.
Still according to our information, the images were filmed around 7:40 p.m., hours after the attempted thefts that occurred at the business school (between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.). The rather dark brightness of the video can attest to this.
Asked, Charles Compagnon explains that he received the images from a relative of a student at the school. On his Facebook account where he shared the video, he admits that they do not show the assault mentioned. “But it remains an attack with a man on the ground,” he explains. So far, police have no explanation for the attack shown in this video.
