No more bird scooters in Unterschleißheim – district of Munich

Bad news for e-scooter fans in Unterschleißheim: The motorized scooters that can be rented via an app will disappear from the city again at the end of the year. This was announced by the operator “Bird” of the city administration.

Since June of this year, the black scooters with the white sticker have been present in the largest municipality in the Munich district and have actually been well received, according to the town hall. But the scooter business is probably too uncertain for the US parent company in view of rising energy prices and increasing competition. Bird has announced that it will withdraw from the entire German market as well as from Norway and Sweden. As in all other German cities, operations in Unterschleißheim will be discontinued on December 31, 2022. The scooters in Unterschleißheim are to be gradually collected from December 8th. According to the city administration, a successor for the scooter provider is currently not in sight.

This is how the field of e-scooter providers in the district is thinning. Bird’s competitor “Tier” made representations in Garching in the summer to offer 200 scooters and 100 electric bicycles there. The Berlin company also cooperates with the Munich transport company MVG and is represented in the state capital with a large fleet of scooters. The details for a rental start in Garching should be negotiated by the end of the year, but no decision has yet been made.
