The Kansas City Chiefs can still hope for the Super Bowl triumph in the National Football League (NFL) despite an injury to their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 27-20 at home on Saturday (local time) and are the first team to reach the playoff semifinals. There, Kansas meets the winner of the duel between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Mahomes was injured in the first quarter at Arrowhead Stadium when a full-weight opponent fell on his right ankle. The 27-year-old continued to play with a limp, but then left the field for treatment. The 37-year-old Chad Henne took over the position of quarterback in the meantime.

Mahomes returned in the second half, which the home fans enthusiastically rewarded with “MVP, MVP” shouts. The effort of the visibly battered Mahomes paid off: In the last quarter he enabled Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s decisive touchdown with a strong pass.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be one of two teams to play a league game in Germany next season. The NFL recently announced this. Last November there was the first NFL game on German soil in Munich’s Allianz Arena between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Seattle Seahawks.
