Arsenal was stopped in its tracks by Newcastle in Tuesday’s clash (0-0). Large winner of Bournemouth (3-0), Manchester United took the opportunity to consolidate its place in the top 4 and return to the height of the Magpies. In the evening’s other games, Fulham frustrated Leicester (0-1) and Brighton punished Everton (1-4), where Frank Lampard’s future looks increasingly uncertain.
Arsenal 0-0 Newcastle
The Premier League’s best defense lived up to its reputation at the Emirates. Newcastle stood up to leader Arsenal, who had previously won all their matches in their lair (0-0). Despite clear dominance, Gunners only managed to get on target four times. Martin Ødegaard’s set pieces brought danger, but Gabriel’s header went just wide (35e), like that of Gabriel Martinelli (79e). Eddie Nketiah had the match point at the tip of his foot but Nick Pope saved his shot (88e). The London defense trembled on a few set pieces (16e45e+2, 82e), but neither team will manage to score. To the chagrin of the Emirates public, who unsuccessfully demanded a penalty for a handball in added time (90e+5). We are now awaiting the response from Manchester City, which could return to five points on Thursday.

The essential Casemiro unlocked the match by cutting a free kick from Christian Eriksen (23e). Luke Shaw made the break from the penalty spot on a cross from Alejandro Garnacho (49e). David De Gea has done his part of the job (57e59e), Garnacho found the post (78e) and Marcus Rashford had the last word with the right foot (86e). The only downside: Donny van de Beek’s injury exit just before half-time.

Already a scorer against Arsenal, Evan Ferguson scored from close quarters to materialize the big job of Jeremy Sarmiento (52e). Solly March immediately drove in the nail from the left (54e), and the incredible gift from Idrissa Gueye let Pascal Gross escape to score with a nice dive (56e). Demarai Gray saved the honor from the penalty spot following a foul on Iwobi (90e+2), but the pressure intensifies on Frank Lampard… The Roberto De Zerbi version of Brighton continues to take shape and is now in eighth place.
