New York: Celebration fireman saves life with stunt on the 21st floor

Dramatic footage of an apartment fire on the 20th floor of a New York skyscraper. Heavy smoke left the occupants of an apartment with no other way out than the window. The cell phone pictures show two people surrounded by smoke – one of them leaning out of the window, the other at a dizzying height above the abyss. A firefighter gives the two a device with breathing air. One of the two grabs the mask. The daring stunt could have saved their lives. The vast majority of all fire victims do not die from the fire itself, but from poisonous smoke. If the way out of the apartment is blocked, the balcony is often the best choice. In the case in question, additional arriving firefighters were able to save the residents. Several dozen people were injured in the fire. According to the New York City Fire Department, the fire was caused by a defective lithium-ion battery.
