New public search
Former RAF members are said to have committed more robberies
The wanted RAF terrorists Staub and Garweg are now also accused of crimes in Elmshorn, Osnabrück and Löhne. In addition to a new video, the investigators also have information about Daniela Klette.
With a new video, photos and new information, the investigators want to find the former RAF terrorists Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub are being arrested. The two men, as well as Daniela Klette, who was arrested earlier this year, are said to have committed robberies on armored cars and supermarkets between 1999 and 2016. The trio is now accused of further crimes, as the Verden public prosecutor’s office and the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) announced.
The three accused are said to have raided the cash desks of supermarkets in Elmshorn (Schleswig-Holstein) in 2014 and in Osnabrück (Lower Saxony) in 2015. Garweg and Staub are also said to have raided a supermarket in Löhne-Ulenburg (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 2009. In total, the two former RAF members are said to be responsible for 13 crimes with a total loss of more than 2.7 million euros.
They are said to have used this money to finance their lives underground. The trio is being investigated for attempted and completed aggravated robbery and attempted murder. They are also accused of kidnapping for ransom. Klette, Staub and Garweg belonged to the so-called third generation of the left-wing extremist Red Army Faction (RAF). In 1998, the RAF, which killed more than 30 people, declared itself disbanded.
Video will be shown in the evening on “Aktenzeichen XY… Ungelöst”
The new video will be shown in the evening (8:15 p.m.) in the television program “Aktenzeichen XY… Ungelöst.” “It is assumed that this video shows Burkhard Garweg,” says a statement from the makers of the ZDF format. The report was added to the program at short notice.
The LKA also published fake ID documents that may have been used to rent apartments near the crime scene. “There is a suspicion that Daniela K. posed as Sarah (crime in Stuhr) and Lucia (crime in Hildesheim) and may have presented fake ID documents to rent the apartment,” it said. The landlords at the time are now being sought.
