The camping trend seems unstoppable. It is therefore not surprising that Mercedes will probably have a little brother alongside its successful V-Class Marco Polo model from mid-2023. Soon there will also be the Mercedes EQT as a mini camper.

Officially, it is still a concept study, but those responsible at Mercedes-Vans leave little doubt that there will soon be a small Marco Polo. Unlike the best-selling Mercedes V-Class with the Marco Polo body, the Mercedes EQT is not only electrically powered, but can also be equipped with a high roof, on-board kitchen and all kinds of practical camping accessories if required. If you want to, you can not only drive purely electrically thanks to the 45 kWh battery pack up to 280 kilometers to the campsite or the lake shore of your choice, but can also let up to four people sleep, cook or play cards inside the mini camper.

The camping fan has the choice of ordering his Mercedes EQT with a normal or long wheelbase. The camping cassette with oven, sink, cool box and other camping modules comes from Brabus. The former noble tuner as a Bottrop manufacturer and individual expert has long since turned into a high-tech supplier who, from the second half of next year, will equip the Mercedes EQT with a folding roof including a solar module and a camping box on request, which should at least help you over the weekend. For long tours, the Mercedes EQT is not suitable either as a normal seven-seater or as a Marco Polo mini camper, because the range of less than 300 kilometers and a manageable charging speed of 80 kW stand in the way of long-distance trips, as does the lack of luggage space, which, however, the big brother Mercedes V-class offers. Like the normal Marco Polo, the Mercedes EQT Camper also offers two medium-sized double beds in just a few simple steps – one in the folding roof and the second in the converted bed area in the rear. Practical: the seven USB ports inside.

“For us, the future is electric – regardless of the size or purpose of a van. The latest proof of this strategic orientation is our new EQT with all-electric drive. With the Marco Polo module, we will soon be offering a first, simple solution for all-electric camping trips. In the second half of 2023, we plan to further expand our range with a full-fledged and also fully electric micro camper,” says Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales at Mercedes-Vans. If you want to go on a long journey despite the small travel package, we recommend the seven-seater T-Class with a combustion engine, then there are no frequent charging stops and you can explore mountains, lakes, sea or nature up close in front of your own sliding door. If the weather isn’t right, the roof is extended and two adults and their children can enjoy the rain inside.

For a day out in the sun, on the other hand, the smallest Marco Polo should even have an extendable awning based on the example of its big brother. Folding table and chairs are also on board. The prices for the camping module have not yet been determined. The Mercedes EQT starts with 90 kW / 122 PS / 245 Nm with a normal wheelbase and its overall length of 4.50 meters at 49,000 euros.
