Gollum actor Andy Serkis can imagine a comeback in the new “Lord of the Rings” films.

Andy Serkis (59) would like to be a part of the new “Lord of the Rings” films. In February, production giant Warner Bros. announced it would bring more stories from the literary world of JRR Tolkien (1892-1973) to the big screen. The Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema had already co-produced the two trilogies “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” by director Peter Jackson (61). Serkis embodied the degenerate hobbit Gollum via motion capture.

“I adore these guys and they are like a second family to me,” Serkis gushed to The Hollywood Reporter about Jackson and co. “I’ve spent so many years making films with them. I love their sensibilities and their approach; this is filmmaking on another level. You live and breathe it.”

Gollum might be there

When asked if he would be involved in the new project, Serkis said: “And yes, if an opportunity arises, that would be great”. Whether Peter Jackson will also be involved in the new films is not yet certain.

It is not unlikely that Andy Serkis could return as Gollum. After all, the new films are set to take place in the Third Age of Middle-earth. The first two trilogies also took place during this period.

Due to his ability to lend his facial expressions to exotic characters via motion capture, other roles are also open to Serkis.

Elijah Wood is more skeptical than Andy Serkis

Elijah Wood (42), on the other hand, sees the new plans a little more ambivalently than Andy Serkis. “Obviously there is a desire to make a lot of money behind it,” he recently told “GQ”. But commerce doesn’t have to be a bad thing, it can also create art.

But Peter Jackson’s first trilogy, in which Wood played the lead role Frodo, was about something else. “They came out of a passion for these books and a desire to make them happen. And I hope that ultimately drives the films that follow,” says the actor.
