The discovery of a Twitter user has caused a stir within the FIFA community. The find is said to prove one of the conspiracy theories surrounding the popular football simulation from EA Sports.

“Over time, the FUT cards from your own team get worse and worse.” A conspiracy theory that every FIFA gamer has either heard of or even experienced. But what is behind it?

According to the claim, particularly popular SBC players or meta cards that have been in the starting XI of their own club for a long time will eventually lose quality and will no longer be as strong or usable as they were at the beginning. A problem of your own feelings or does EA Sports have a finger in the pie?

Although the FIFA community would certainly trust the publisher with such an approach due to the resulting monetary advantages, the alleged weakening has never been clearly proven – but that could have changed now!

FIFA 23: That’s why your players in FUT get worse over time

On Monday evening, the Twitter user “Quick_Rage FUT” shared a discovery with the FIFA community on his channel, which gave new fuel to the discussion about the alleged loss of quality.

The user noticed that in both the web app (PC access) and the companion app (mobile access), under the “Player Biography” tab that appears when selecting a card in the team menu, some players are listed as having an injury , although there does not seem to be any physical impairment. In this case, the well-known symbol would normally be displayed, which only disappears when a healing card is activated.

So could this actually be proof of the well-known conspiracy theory?

Serious evidence or not? FIFA community is divided

Although large parts of the community do not speak well of publisher EA Sports and such discoveries are regularly used to give free rein to one’s own displeasure, there is no consensus on the credibility of this alleged evidence – also because it would mean that exactly the developer, who otherwise fails because of small details, must have achieved an unusual technical masterstroke here.

The much more obvious explanation would be a graphical bug, which is not uncommon in the case of the two applications for FIFA 23. For “Quick_Rage FUT”, the founder of the theory, the situation is not so clear. Following his discovery, he says he tested several versions of the same player – one with a hidden injury and one without.

He came to the conclusion that the cards with a secret wound have always performed worse than their healthy counterparts. So you won’t be able to completely dispel the doubts of some gamers. Especially during a FIFA part, in which there was already a scandal about secretly changing player ratings. How much weight you want to give to such a proof is therefore up to you. EA is unlikely to comment on this.
