On Monday, the Thuringian state parliament is to vote on its dissolution according to previous plans. But whether that will happen was more uncertain than ever on Wednesday afternoon. Since a stable majority is not certain, the parliamentary groups of the Left, SPD and Greens now want to discuss how to proceed on Sunday evening.
Left parliamentary group leader Steffen Dittes said the German press agency, you want to think through different scenarios that are possible on Monday. Should a majority still emerge, Red-Red-Green and CDU want to vote in two stages on Monday. First of all, the proposal itself should be voted on; in a final vote, the MPs should then finally decide on its dissolution. The four parties want to ensure that the dissolution does not depend on votes from the AfD.
At the same time, Dittes emphasized that there was no political alternative to the new election, as there was no basis for further cooperation between Red-Red-Green and the CDU. The government and opposition would have to continue working for another three years.
Uncertain majority for dissolution of the state parliament
A two-thirds majority is required for the dissolution of the state parliament. 60 of the total of 90 MPs must approve the motion to dissolve Parliament. Red-Red-Green has a total of 42 seats, the CDU parliamentary group has 21 members.
