New battery factory: BMW apparently wants to go to Irlbach in Lower Bavaria. – Bavaria

Battery production, which will one day supply the automobile plants in Munich, Dingolfing and Regensburg, will probably be set up on the outskirts of the Lower Bavarian village of Irlbach. “We’re in the race,” confirms the mayor.

An important industrial settlement is likely to be in the offing in Lower Bavaria. According to information from Süddeutsche Zeitung it is considered very likely that the automobile manufacturer BMW will build its new assembly plant for high-voltage batteries in Irlbach near Straßkirchen (district of Straubing-Bogen). An official confirmation is still pending. “We are on the home stretch with the search for a location and are holding final talks with the owners,” said a BMW spokesman. That’s why they haven’t commented on a possible location yet. Local politicians and agricultural circles in the region are openly talking about Irlbach as the location for the new factory. “We’re in the running,” said the mayor of the town of 1,200, Armin Soller, “even if nothing has been signed yet.” The new battery plant is an important component of the automotive group in the electrification of its vehicle fleet.
