Neukölln: A dead man after a fire in a retirement home in Berlin

A fire broke out in a retirement home in Neukölln on Sunday night. More than 100 firefighters were on duty. One person died in the fire and several others were injured.

One person died in a fire in a retirement home in Schudomastraße in Berlin-Neukölln. A police spokesman confirmed this to rbb on Sunday morning. Four people were injured but rescued, said a fire department spokesman on site. Previously, the “Berlin newspaper” reported on the fatalities and the injured.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 6:45 a.m. According to the fire department, the fire was quickly brought under control and was already extinguished in the morning. Accordingly, the fire broke out on the third floor of the building. A patient room was in full fire, according to the fire department spokesman.

More than 100 emergency services were on site or on the way to the scene of the fire, it said. The police cordoned off the area around the retirement home. The cause of the fire was initially unclear.
