Neuhausen-Nymphenburg: Parking at the Hirschgarten should cost – Munich

Summer, sun, a party mood – with temperatures like the ones prevailing at the moment, Munich residents are drawn to the outdoors. There is a lot going on in the Hirschgarten, as the park has Bavaria’s largest beer garden. The car park on De la Paz Street, with its 155 spaces, fills up quickly, especially since it’s free. At least for now. Because Neuhausen-Nymphenburg’s local politicians advocate the introduction of fees.

“We’ve been receiving complaints about this parking lot for years,” Greens spokesman Niko Lipkowitsch explains the district committee’s demand. Especially at night, there is a lot going on on the site: there is partying, sleeping in mobile homes, drifting around the curves in cars. And races would be run. Residents therefore did not close an eye, felt bothered. High costs for using the parking lot at night could put an end to this hustle and bustle. For the first time in years, he “feels like he’s getting a button on the matter,” says Lipkowitsch.

During their research, the citizens’ representatives found a company from Unterföhring that can draw on 18 years of experience in the field of parking space management. According to Lipkowitsch, this company would be willing to take over the management of the area with a five-year contract with the municipality. The model is “sensational in principle”, according to the politician: “You could use it to make the parking lot vandal-proof – and the whole thing doesn’t cost the city anything”.

With this principle, the fees would be determined by means of license plate recognition. The city would receive 100 percent of the income from the parking costs, and the company itself would finance itself through the “tickets” of those who did not pay the fees. How much it could cost to park your car there has not yet been clarified – but the district representatives have in mind a “low” fee during the day and a “high” fee at night.

It remains to be seen whether the building department for horticulture can imagine such a solution. When asked, it is said that one cannot anticipate an answer to the district committee application.
