The murder of Dutch journalist Peter de Vries in 2021 caused horror. Two suspects have been on trial in the case since June – now a third has been arrested: He is said to have instructed both men.

A third suspect has been arrested about a year after the murder of Dutch crime reporter Peter de Vries. As the prosecutor explained, it is a 27-year-old Pole who is suspected of having instructed the other two perpetrators. The man was arrested on suspicion of murder in another case in October, local media reported.

Assassination attempt in the middle of the city center

Peter de Vries, best known for his reporting on the kidnapping of millionaire Freddy Heineken in 1983, was gunned down while exiting a television studio in Amsterdam on July 6, 2021 and died in hospital nine days later.

The murder of the well-known journalist had caused horror in the Netherlands and across Europe. De Vries had made a name for himself through his role in solving high-profile criminal cases and as a spokesman for victims.

Suspect is said to have given instructions

A court case is currently underway in Amsterdam against the first two suspects in the murder case. Dutchman Delano G. is accused of shooting de Vries. The second accused, Kamil E., is said to have driven the getaway car and previously scouted out the area. Prosecutors asked for life imprisonment for both men. The verdict is expected on July 14.

A telephone had been seized from the two men, in which a previously unknown person had given direct instructions for the murder. This person is said to be the man who has now been arrested, as reported by the media. According to the newspaper Het Parool, he is said to have a direct connection to the alleged boss of a notorious drug gang, Ridouan Taghi.

Investigators assume that Taghi was the orderer of the murder. De Vries was the key witness who heavily incriminated Taghi and his gang in court. The brother and the lawyer of the key witness had already been murdered beforehand.
